Reading logs are going home!!!

I am sending reading logs home today.  When students complete the reading logs and turn them in they will get a free pizza coupon from Pizza Hut!  Please keep the reading logs in the plastic sleeve inside the folders.

It is important that students are reading every night and working on fluency and accuracy.  The table below will help with how many words your child should be reading and a website for you to reference.  Some students read quickly and once they are reading fluently then the focus is on the child being able to understand what they read and can they retell the story in their own words.

FLUENCY
How many words per minute should 2nd graders be reading?
Fall
55
Winter
80
Spring
92

This week I am meeting with students and sending them home with books to practice reading.  There are questions in the back that they can answer verbally.  This will be a good check to see if they understood what they read.

Thank you for all your support and working with your child!!

Open House

Thank you for coming!  I hope that you enjoyed and learned what a day is like in 2nd grade for your child.  Students are always excited to share what they do and I know your child was excited to share with you.

Also, I sent home the spelling with your child on Friday.  These are due the following Friday.  The idea of the spelling is for students to understand the patterns.  I will randomly test them on 10 words. If you have any questions please email me.
